ABOUT THE SHOW
“Relais” is a performance for five dancers.
It’s the first time out of twenty years of experimentation with new technology, that Ariella Vidach doesn’t place digital technologies as a principal character.
Without denying the history of the company that has excelled in the use of new technologies in dance, “Relais” resizes the presence of digital technology, as well as images and their projection, to bring attention back to the body, its matter and its consistency.
With this new production Ariella Vidach wants to return to the concreteness of the reality of people and objects exploring the space through volumes, shapes and sounds of matter.
“I wanted to return” – says Ariella Vidach – “to the pure sounds, and especially to the physical touches, ever chased but never really rendered within a virtual context, wherein everything is enhanced and involving, but in fact inconsistent.”
On the pages of “Il Sole 24 Ore”, Marinella Guatterini writes: “Relais combines fragments of creaking sounds, but also moments of life, feelings of play, of wonder, of poignant memories, of oblivion, marked by the gestures and by the foreground facial expressions.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
In 1996 Ariella Vidach and Claudio Prati, established in Milan the dance company, Ariella Vidach – AiEP, widening the geographic and artistic horizons defined by Avventure in Elicottero Prodotti, a pre-existing cultural association founded in Lugano in 1988 with other artist. This in order to research on new technologies applied to contemporary dance and performing arts.
For more than 20 years, AiEP’s artistic path has been exploring interactivity in a growing of complexity: from video projections on stage to nearly invisible sensors worn by the dancers, passing for motion capture and computer graphic, the relation between body, choreography and interactive systems was further explored and the interferences between art and technology have become more and more refined and evocative.
Ariella Vidach – AiEP has been awarded the World Summit Award WSA 2013 during the Congress held last October 23 to 26 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, an initiative of the United Nations. The award went to the interactive system INaxyz, judged “one of the most innovative and technically advanced products applied to the dance in the world.”
